Maternity Policy

Do you need maternity cover at your school?

Introduction

Although the announcement of an impending birth is always something to celebrate, it can often be a worry for employers who may be left wondering what the impact will be on their school. Suddenly, a key team member isn’t there and there’s no way to know if they’re coming back. This makes maternity leave particularly hard to plan and budget for.

For most schools, academies and colleges, a maternity absence is inevitable sooner or later. It can be disruptive and expensive to provide cover when a teacher takes time off to have a baby. Whilst National Insurance repays most of the absent teacher’s salary, most schools need assistance to help pay for a replacement teacher.

At Absence Protection we offer two different types of maternity cover and are the only provider to offer the option to recieve maternity claim payments from the day maternity leave commences.

Our maternity calculator helps provide a potential indication of the financial shortfall that a school may experience when a member of staff takes maternity leave. The deficit calculated is based upon the “2010 burgundy book” and government standard SMP figures, however we cannot predict individual school circumstances therefore it remains the schools responsibility to ensure the cover amount selected is sufficient.

With over ten years' experience in staff absence insurance, we cover schools against teacher absences throughout the UK. Our staff absence insurance solutions are tailored to suit the budget, size and requirements of your school.
