A new international survey has revealed that teachers in England work more hours than anywhere else in Europe. The survey of teachers and school leaders in 48 countries conducted by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) revealed that secondary teachers in England worked 46.9 hours a week on average, the fourth-highest workload of the 48 countries polled.

Schools will get £400 million in extra capital funding this year, the chancellor has announced. Mr Hammond said the government was "investing record amounts in our schools", but acknowledged that "school’s budgets do not stretch to that extra bit of kit that would make such a difference".
