Justine Greening has been appointed as education secretary in Theresa May's Cabinet reshuffle. Ms Greening replaces Nicky Morgan, who has served in the role for the previous two years. She was tipped to be a likely candidate for Education Secretary after the new Prime Minister said she was keen to assign more women to top cabinet positions.

The number of teachers with no relevant post A-level on specialist subjects like maths, physics and chemistry, is on the rise, new figures showed. Figures published by the Department for Education (DfE) showed almost one in four physics teachers had no relevant post A-level qualification in the subject they teach.

Around one in six children in England missed out on a place at their top choice of secondary school this year, government figures show. This equates to tens of thousands of failed applications, with half of children in some London boroughs missing out as councils scramble to provide enough places to meet growing demand.
